                                                     A'aliya McLean/ Finance Blogger

Young, intelligent, African American, Muslimah. Philly Native. I had the privilege of obtaining my Bachelors of Sciences in Finance from the First Historically Black College University, The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. I am currently in pursuit of my MBA with a concentration in Accounting at St Joseph’s University. As you’ve probably figured out, I have a strong interest in the financial field. I have been working in the industry for 3 years. During my short tenure, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to gain exposure to many different areas within the financial realm. I started in operations, where I worked on high priority financial transactions. I then became a stock broker, having had the opportunity to work on some specialty accounts. Finally, I am now in a more client facing role in retirement services where I not only get to stay connected to my first love, finance, but also get some of the client relationship aspect which I truly enjoy.

When this idea of starting a blog was suggested to me, I thought that it would be a great opportunity to begin “giving back.” It was clear that I had already been working toward my own personal growth, but now a chance to help others had presented itself. I hope to share some of the knowledge that I’ve gained over the years. It saddens me to see the current state of the African American culture. Our current situation is largely a result of our lack of independence in this world. Far too few of us own our own businesses, are establishing our own wealth and working towards or own financial freedom; hence the need to start dialogue around some of the topics that are often over looked. I’ll be sharing my opinion of some issues that impact African American communities from a financial perspective. From the Philadelphia School District deficit, to the reason why so many Blacks are compelled to live beyond their means, we’ll discuss it all. I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you, as well as hearing yours!
