Kelisha Brickley

Kelisha Brickley Music and Hair Blogger

Hello World. My name is Kelisha and I am the Music Blogger and Co-editor for JAE Blog. I am a native of West Philadelphia and I graduated in Spring 2011 from West Chester University, with my Bachelors of Arts in Sociology. I have been working in the Social Services field for the past three  years and I currently specialize in improving the safety and permanency for our inner city youth of Philadelphia and their families. Aside from my passion to help others, I’ve always had a special place in my heart for performing arts, especially Music.

My love for Music began when I was just two years old. I loved singing and listening to my father play the keyboard and guitar to his own composed music. I began singing on the choir in elementary school and playing the clarinet. Being inspired by my father and also his sister’s music group “The Orlons”, in the fifth grade I started a singing group with two of my best friends called “Three’s the Limit.” We made up our own choreography, and performed for our family, friends, and classmates at school. Furthermore, in middle school, I nicknamed myself KSparkle as I started to explore the art of rapping. One of my favorite pastimes was making up raps and spitting them on 103.9’s baller check-in every Thursday on the radio. From middle school throughout my college years I continued to express my love for music through singing and dancing, performing in talent shows, singing on the gospel choir, attending concerts, and never turning on my television because I’d rather listen to and play music all day. From the instruments to the beats, the drums to the lyrics. There is always a song that can describe the way that you feel, perfectly to a T. “Music is life, that’s why our heart has beats.”

I have a love for different genres of music; however, my favorites include 90’s R&B, Soul, and Hip-Hop. Some of my favorite artists include Earth, Wind, and Fire, The Isley Brothers, Lauryn Hill, SWV, Marsha Ambrosius, Stevie Wonder, Destiny’s Child, Common, Lupe Fiasco, The ROC, and Kendrick Lamar. I also enjoy supporting upcoming artists in my hometown by attending local shows, concerts, and listening parties.

In my section of the blog I’m excited to share with you my album reviews to concert reviews; highlights of new and upcoming artists in my hometown as well as the music industry as a whole; interviews, performances, lyrics, and a host of other things. So get your eyes and ears ready as we get ready to take a tour on Kelisha’s musical journey.
