Impressive, Eclectic, and Soulful Sound: Ms. Elli Ingram

A few months ago I was browsing YouTube and went to type in "Poetic Justice". I had intentions on listening to Kendrick Lamar’s version but instead I came across one by Elli Ingram and decided to give it a listen. After a minute into the song, I was blown away by her impressive vocals, sweet soulful sound and depth, as well as creativity. Her voice and style instantly gave me Amy Winehouse mixed with Adele. Following my first listen, I kept the song on repeat for the remainder of the hour and was interested in listening to more music from this talented upcoming artist…

Elli Ingram is a 21-year-old woman from Brighton, Britain (UK). She grew up in a musical home, where her dad was a part of a classic rock cover band and her sister played the piano. Her mother also enjoyed listening to reggae and ska music. Elli’s unique voice and style was influenced by her family’s musical talents and their interest in different genres of music (Obi- Asika-Iweka). Her first YouTube post for “Poetic Justice” was back in January of 2013 and it has received 611,368 views to date. You can find a host of other videos on her YouTube channel including her latest mixtape, The Dog House, her entire Sober EP, along with her singles “Silver and Gold”, “Intoxicated”, and “Lost in the world/No church in the wild”, where she created a rendition of “No Church in the wild” by Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Frank Ocean.

Elli Ingram’s musical idols include Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill, Fugees, Billie Holiday, and D’Angelo. She also loves hip-hop artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, Guru, and Big Pun. Her favorite genres of music are Jazz and Hip Hop (Obi Asika-Iweka). Elli was signed to Island Records last year and toured in Europe with Chase and Status, a British Electronic music production consisting of Saul Milton and Will Kennard. Elli will be performing at Love Box 2014 in London alongside with A$AP Rocky, Joe Bada$$, Madlib, and a host of other performers.

Elli Ingram offers free listens to her music on Soundcloud.com. In addition, you can also purchase Elli’s Sober EP and her latest EP, The Doghouse on iTunes. I encourage you to give her a listen; I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. We all will be looking forward to hearing and seeing way more from Ms. Ingram in the near future.
