The D Word

fitnessThere are so many tips, fad diets and false information to lose weight. It makes it almost impossible to receive the right information through all of the junk that’s out there. I am here to tell you the one word to lose weight…. Dedication!

You need to be dedicated to lose your desired weight. The truth is that it’s the hardest but most essential obstacle to reach your goal weight. I have fell victim to the D-word as well. Losing weight is the same as any other goal you would like to accomplish such as learning to drive, achieving a degree, learning a trade, building a business, etc. You have to deposit losing/maintaining weight into your everyday life.

Dedication includes planning exercise, food shopping, and cooking into your schedule. The truth is that you have to get out of your comfort zone. Staying in love with your comfort zone will keep you at your weight or worst, gaining more weight. Your schedule will have to be real to your life and no one else’s.

If you can’t make it to the gym with your busy schedule or don’t care for the gym, try working out at home. The store Five Below, as well as others, has an array of little work out equipment to build your mini home gym, affordably. If you have cable, there is a great variety of work out shows to choose from for every individual. Don’t like working out by yourself? Try to arrange workout groups with your friends or co-workers. Try to find different classes being held around the city or even at your gym. There is an exercise plan for you, but you have to be dedicated in finding one that works for you.

If you like to cook, like myself, there are plenty of healthy recipes on the internet and people to follow via social networks, in order to make your food intake interesting and good for you. If you don’t like to cook, there are actually tasty food options frozen and fresh at your local food store. Those frozen steam-able veggie bags that you pop in the microwave are fast and easy to make. Not as healthy as fresh but definitely healthier than the can veggies, which are full of sodium (salt). Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice brands have a wide and healthy selection of food choices, which could also have a salt content over the mark but better for you than fast and fried food. Some markets also have the already made salad kits, cut up fruit, boiled eggs, meal in the bag, and all sorts of grab and go things that can make your life easy while being healthy.

As this segment of JAE unfolds, I will give you all I know about obtaining a healthier lifestyle. We will help each other through this battle with your feedback and input. Another truth to the D-word is that it’s not just the individual that needs to be healthy, the whole community does. Leading our children, our equals, and our elders into a healthier lifestyle will lower blood pressure, blood sugar, STI’s (Sexual transmitted Infections), heart failures, and physical disabilities, as well as other ailments, across the entire community. We need to really change our way of thinking and think beyond us. If you’re changing your way of eating, include your family, friends, and co-workers. It makes it easier on you to achieve your goal when you are surrounded by people that are on the same wavelength as you are. The best things in life take time, planning, and support from others.

Welcome to the Journey to Healthy Living…

Guided by yours truly...
