This season is all about being bold and what better way to stand out then with a lovely lip color. What I look for in a lipstick is great pigment, great coverage, lasting power, and one that won’t crease (usually solved with a moisturizer, liner or a primer my secret trick). I also decide on whether I want a matte, shiny or glossy finish and lastly what feels good on my lips. What I mean by what feels good is whether it’s sticky, tacky or clumpy; if it’s doing any of these it will throughout your wear so you don't want that; it’s uncomfortable, not attractive and no one wants that when you have to be camera ready! Now that its spring and quickly approaching summer, now is the perfect time to try bold seasonal colors!
If you have seen pictures of me or know me personally, you'll know that my look is not complete unless I finalize it with a bold lip. My eyes and my lips are two of my favorite features on my face. I don’t necessarily like to play up my eyes too much because I'm comfortable mostly with a natural look with a bold popping lip. It’s also sometimes hard to pair a bold lip with eye-shadow so to cut down the time of figuring out what eye shadow to wear with what lip, I go neutral. I usually wear a light coverage foundation or a tinted moisturizer, black eyeliner mascara and a neutral gold shimmer shadow. If I want it to be bold I’ll wear a winged liner.
My skin tone is a nice medium dark so I can’t really go wrong with too many colors, it's fun trying different ones on and seeing how they make me feel. If I do not completely love a color on, I do not buy it. I have a huge personality so I usually go for bold colors. No every color isn't going to look right so it’s important to try on colors that you think may work; you may be surprised!
Brands I love are MAC and Sephora of course but I have been branching out and seeing what lower end brands are good as well. I’ve been trying stores like Ulta, Target and Walgreens. I love Ulta because they sell high-end as well as drugstore brands that you can, sometimes try on. Some lower end brands I’ve tried are NYX, ELF and Wet and Wild. The only thing about buying low-end is unlike with MAC or Sephora, you can’t try on everything so its trial and error. Also if you don’t like a MAC product you can return it as long as you have a receipt, which pays off with lipsticks costing $14-20 a tube. But when compared to NYX at $5 a tube, you can’t beat it and you can always make another use for a lipstick so you can’t really go wrong. Remember to hastag #jaeblog, so I can see what beautiful bold lip colors you chose to rock this season!
Great read! Also you can return makeup that your aren't satisfied with from your local drugstores too. So you don't have to e stuck with a color you don't like even if it was cheap!!!
