Shonda Rhimes fans are outraged by a statement made by NY Times Alessandra Stanley calling her an angry black woman. Now before I got too upset, I decided to go read the article for myself. The first line of the article is: “When Shonda Rhimes writes her autobiography, it should be called “How to Get Away With Being an Angry Black Woman.”

Now I tried to read the entire article but it’s full of contradictory statements. Basically Stanley feels that all of Rhimes black women characters are angry and authoritative but their characters are better than inferior roles Black women once played on television. I totally disagree, for example, Kerry Washington's character Oliva Pope is amazing and much more than angry. But I’m really confused as to what’s the problem with Black women not playing maids anymore?

Shonda Rhimes is very talented and inspiring. Her fans have been waiting patiently for the return of Greys Anatomy and Scandal since the season finales. And we’re even more excited to see what the new show, How To Get Away with Murder starring Viola Davis has in store; Rhimes is the executive producer of the show.

But Rhimes shouldn’t care what the NY Times has to say, the women who work with her opinions should matter more. "Kerry Washington, Viola Davis, Chandra Wilson, and more, told The Hollywood Reporter that Rhimes is “brilliant, compassionate, courageous,” said Washington. “Innovative, courageous, visionary,” said Davis. “Writer, shy, decisive,” added Wilson" (essence.com).

Read below what Shonda Rhimes had to say about the on NY Times author on twitter:

@shondarhimes- Confused why @nytimes critic doesn't know identity of CREATOR of show she's reviewing. @petenowa did u know u were "an angry black woman"?

@shondarhimes- Apparently we can be "angry black women" together, because I didn't know I was one either! @petenowa #LearnSomethingNewEveryday

@shondarhimes- Final thing: (then I am gonna do some yoga): how come I am not "an angry black woman" the many times Meredith (or Addison!) rants? @nytimes

@shondarhimes- Wait. I'm" angry" AND a ROMANCE WRITER?!! I'm going to need to put down the internet and go dance this one out. Because ish is getting real.
Tell us what you think about Shonda Rhimes being called an angry black women?
