Philly's Own: Brianna Cash

On October 23rd, 2014 I had the pleasure of attending Marsha Ambrosius’ Friends and Lovers Tour at the Theater of Living Arts . I was lucky enough to win two free tickets to the show from Veteran Freshman’s own Yusef Muhammad, which were super clutch by the way! The show had two opening acts before Marsha Ambrosius and they were Philly’s Own, Brianna Cash and MPrynt.

I have seen MPrynt quite a few times (and grown to love them more each performance) ; however, this was my first time seeing Brianna Cash and she did a great job might I add! Her voice was very soulful, her lyrics spoke truths, stories, and positive messages, and her band had a great sound.
In addition, she gave off so much beautiful energy and not only did Brianna sing but she also played the guitar. Although she only performed for a short amount of time, it was evident that this young woman has great talent. Following her performance, it led me to go listen to her EP on Soundcloud and look for more information about her …

Brianna Cash is 22 years young and a native of North Philadelphia. In my opinion, her voice gives me a cross between Adele and Corinne Bailey, with a splash of Amy Winehouse. Not only is she a singer, but she is also a songwriter and musician. She has been singing and playing instruments since she was younger and in an interview with That Music Mag she states that, “music has always been a part of my life. I’m just now bringing everything together and seeing my potential”(Jaz Bowens) . Brianna released her Journey after June EP in December 2013 and I'm over here wondering why it took me so long to come across such dopeness. The mixtape speaks about Brianna's life experiences and her lyrics are very relatable to not just my life, but I'm sure plenty others as well. In a YouTube video about the EP, she states that she wants people to “turn negative experiences into positive results and hopes that her music helps others understand what it is to make the best out of anything.”  Brianna's words of encouragement as well as her unique style and grace make this EP well worth listening to. Check it out for yourself below, I definitely look forward to hearing more from her in the future!
