Red Bull Sound Select: Luke James, MPrynt, and Jay Marie

Luke-James-@-The-BarbaryI live for concerts with quality music! Especially when the price is just right! When I came across the announcement for Red Bull Sound Select event, curated by Veteran Freshman with Luke James for $3, I immediately clicked the link to RSVP. I quickly spread the word to my ladies of JAE Blog and once Thursday 8/21/14 came around, we were in there like swim wear lol.

The concert took place at The Barbary, 951 Frankford Ave. in Philly. Unfortunately, we got inside late due to waiting in a long line so we missed Jay Marie’s performance. We did however; make it just in time to see Philly’s Own, MPrynt! This was the third time I’ve seen these guys perform and every time I do, they make me fall more in love with them. They performed their own rendition of “Stay with Me” by Sam Smith that instantly gave me a Boyz II Men and 112 type of vibe. Afterwards, they sang Happy Birthday to a close friend of theirs and then went into their single, “Don’t Hurt Me.” Me and our Social Issues Blogger Enazshia were the loudest ones in the audience singing all the words (I had to take that part out of the video though so you won’t judge us lol). We were sad that their performance was so short, it definitely was a tease but nonetheless, a good performance, as always!

Following MPrynt’s performance, Good Girlz, the host of the show kept the crowd engaged at intermission by having a singing contest with audience members vs members of Good Girlz. Winner of the contest won a meet and greet with Luke James. They then started to play 90’s throwback songs and had everyone in the crowd singing and dancing along up until Luke James made his way to the stage …

photo 4(3)Luke James first sang “The Way You Make Me Feel” by Michael Jackson and his voice instantly gave me chills!! His voice was so soulful and his falsettos were just beautiful. After just 2 minutes into his first song, I was eager to hear more. He went on to perform his songs,"I O U", "Make Love to Me", and "Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye. Following that, he performed his single “Options” where he became very emotional as the song talks about abortion and he was very sympathetic with never wanting his daughter or any girl to have to experience the pain associated with it. In addition, Luke James performed “Dancing in the Dark” where he gave us a very sensual and sexy vibe by requesting that the lights be turned off during his performance. The ladies in the crowd started to go wild along with the ladies of JAE and myself as well lol. Luke James ended his performance with his hit single, “I Want You.” Overall, he did an amazing job! His lyrics have messages, his music speaks truths, and his voice speaks volumes! He has definitely gained a fan and I look forward to purchasing his self-titled album on September 23rd.
