“We got a young brother that stands for something! We got a young brother that believes in the all of us! Brother Kendrick Lamar! He's not a rapper, he's a writer, he's an author! And if you read between the lines, we'll learn how to love one another! But you can't do that... — (Right on!) — I said, you can't do that without loving yourself first. "- Pastor

Those words introduce Kendrick Lamar’s first new single, “I” off of his forthcoming third studio album. As soon as I got word that K Dot dropped a new song, I instantly got excited! We fans have been patiently waiting almost two years for Kendrick to drop another first full project/album. I went to soundcloud to give the song a listen. As soon as I heard the beat drop, I instantly started to nod my head like ‘ill, this beat is sick.’ The song has an upbeat tempo of “Who’s that lady” by The Isley Brothers (and those who know me know how much I love their music!). Kendrick raps about his personal perspective of the world and his message is promoting unity and self-love and his lyrics are uplifting and inspiring. Furthermore, the single’s cover art depicts “two men seemingly dressed like a Blood and a Crip with their hands forming the signs of hearts, rather than gang symbols” (Kory Grow). I love everything about the song from the beat to the lyrics, from the creativity to his positive message! Check it out for yourself, K dot is BACK!
