I mentioned prepping for the week before but I thought it was a great time to revisit due to kids being back at school making our agendas a bit tighter. I am a mom, part time student, full time worker, blogger, server of two ministries and the list goes on… I’m pretty sure I am like a lot of you out there while in the midst of life, you are trying to stay healthy. Preparing for your entire week on one day will save lots of temptations, time and money. You will need a plan, trip to the market(s), and time set out to actually prep. The first thing is to do is plan what meals and snacks you will enjoy for the week. Personally, I use Sunday as my shopping and prep day for Mon-Fri and Saturday is my cheat day with limitations.

SHOPPING

I limit myself to about two breakfast choices a week, usually my crustless quiche and some kind of cereal. Next, I decide what recipes I want to make for the remainder of the week. Write out a list of ingredients and go shopping. It will also help to look into the market(s) that has the most sales for your food choices to get the most bang for your buck (Couponing is also a helpful tool). Come home and begin the prep.

SUNDAY PREP

I usually make the full meals for Sunday - Tuesday on Sunday. I also make the starch such as the rice, quinoa, potatoes, etc. for Wednesday-Friday. I wash and season my Wednesday- Friday meats on Sunday so I can quickly cook them on Tuesday for the remainder of the week. My vegetables for Wednesday-Friday are usually frozen steam-ables to pop in the microwave for a quick, effortless veggie portion. Can’t forget my crustless quiche for breakfast which is also made on Sunday, for my recipe click here.

My fruit and veggie snacks are also washed and separated into bags for the week. The lunch I will take is made the night before which are normally left-overs. Sometimes I have a taste for salad and will prep a couple of salad bowls with the meat from dinner. Healthy Choice and Lean cuisines frozen meals are also options for lunch if there aren’t enough left overs or if you want something different. However you do it, it is saved time and money. With lunch from home, you will have fewer temptations to buy lunch which is not always good for you and can be costly. Some people make all of their meals on one day but how my time, kitchen, and fridge are set up separating the cooking works for me. But, by all means do what works for you. It can take up to 2-4 hours of prep depending on what you are cooking comparing to 5-10 hours cooking and prepping if spread out during the week. Prepping will help you spend your time during the week for other things. “Your time is valuable, so use it wisely.”

SIDE NOTE: Prepping your clothes for the week will also save you time in the morning. Ironing all of your clothes and hanging them up saves 30 minutes a morning and 2 ½ hours in a week. Just saying!
