Ms. Teyana Taylor is no longer that little girl who appeared on My Super Sweet 16 that later told us “you ain’t nobody, google me baby! You better ask somebody, google me baby!” She has evolved into such a beautiful, heart throbbing, woman crush of many, with a great voice and of course sex appeal to go along with it. When I first heard that she had a new album that dropped I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t pressed to hear it. But after hearing more and more buzz, I had to go give it a listen for myself. And let me just say that I was definitely impressed and have been playing it ever since …

Teyana Taylor is 23 years old and a native of Harlem. She has been singing since the age of 7. Her musical influences include Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Lauryn Hill. Before she became signed, she enjoyed being a skateboarder and basketball player (Wikipedia.org). Teyana has appeared on MTV’s own, My Super Sweet 16 in 2007 and was signed to Interscope and Star Trek under Pharell Williams. Shortly after, Teyana released her “Google Me” single in 2008 and then a mixtape called From a Planet called Harlem in 2009. Aside from doing her music, she has also used her acting skills with her role in Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming. In 2012, she then signed under Kanye West’s label GOOD Music and The Island Def Jam Music Group. Since then, Teyana has released her mixtape The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor, has been featured on Cruel Summer’s compilation album by Kanye West, and more recently, has released her first studio album, VII.

Teyana’s new album definitely shows a different side of her, which in fact is a positive thing. In my opinion, it not only shows how much she has matured since her last single but also shows her talents and gives her an authentic sound. Her lyrics and sound are beautiful, truthful, sexy, and sensual; and put together over the tones and beats, just makes it complete. Teyana also has some features from some of Hip Hop & R&B’s major artists including Chris Brown, Fabolous, Pusha T, and Yo Gotti. Some of my favorite songs are “Outta my League” (I wish this wasn’t just an interlude), “Request”, “Brokenhearted Girl”, and “Dreams.” Overall, I am very pleased with the album and look forward to hearing and seeing more from Teyana Taylor. Check out her album and make sure to support!
