Album Reviews: Drake & Big Sean

February has been a great month, musically. We’ve been seeing some good performances, attending some great shows, and receiving some great new albums. iTunes and Spotify have been receiving a lot of my money and support lately lol. Some albums released this month include, Raheem DeVaughn’s  Love, Sex, Passion, Drake’s If You’re Reading This, Its Too Late, Chris Brown & Tyga's  Fan of a Fan, and Big Sean’s Dark Sky Paradise. All of these albums stay on rotation in my earphones but if I had to pick my two favorites, it would have to be Drake and Big Sean.

I remember late on a Thursday night, I was browsing my social networks and I saw this album cover being posted all over Instagram and Twitter, but I didn’t know what artist it was. I went to iTunes and typed in “If you’re reading this, its too late” and when I saw that it was new music from Drake, I screamed! (I love me some Drizzy). I instantly downloaded the mixtape, without even previewing it lol. Drake pulled a Beyoncé, by releasing a surprise album without any promotion or announcements. According to USA Today, he sold 306,000 copies and received 17.3 million streams in just 3 days! This album in my opinion is dope! The verses, the vocals, flows, creativity, and the beats (my favorite) are everything. I loved the 90’s R&B samples he used, including Ginuwine and Erykah Badu. If I had to choose my favorite songs they would be “10 Bands”, “Know Yourself”, “Madonna”, and “Jungle.”

In addition to Drake, another dope rap album was released a few days ago, which was Dark Sky Paradise by Big Sean. I know when I first heard the single “IDFWU” I thought it was hilariously immature, but it started to eventually grow on me. You could catch me rapping the catchy lyrics more than a little bit. When I first gave Dark Sky Paradise a listen, it was more than what I expected. I think ever since Big Sean signed to Roc Nation in September 2014, his music has improved and this just may be his best album yet. This album is a compilation of his struggles, the loss of his
grandmother, his worldview, and his inspiration. The album features Kanye West, Drake, E-40, Chris Brown, Jhene Aiko, Lil Wayne, John Legend, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and his current girlfriend Ariana Grande. In addition, Big Sean even features the voice of his father and grandmother on the album. My favorite tracks include “Paradise”, “Dark Sky”, “All Your Fault”, and “Play No Games.”

If you haven’t already, I highly suggest you supporting and coping both Drake and Big Sean’s albums. You’ll definitely be satisfied ;)
