“BLACK” FRIDAY BOYCOTT

IMG_9128.PNG
Although it is so very tempting to hop on these Black Friday shopping deals. I, like many other people are boycotting Black Friday shopping from everyone except Black businesses. African Americans have been upset by many injustices happening all over the US. Police officers have been killing our Black men. Michael Brown from Ferguson in St. Louis was killed this summer by a white police officer in plain sight of many bystanders for reasons that aren’t justifiable. Protests have been conducted in Ferguson and all over the nation because of the recent decision not to indict Officer Wilson, who shot and killed Michael Brown. People are upset with this failure of indictment. I couldn’t make it to Ferguson to protest but I can participate by not supporting this year's Black Friday shopping.

Black people have buying power, which is expected to be in the trillions by 2015. Imagine if we spent that money in our own communities, how much we will benefit from it. Participating in this boycott will not change the world but it will make a difference in the “leaders of Americas” pockets. You know the saying the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. Meanwhile the poor are out here hustling to spend money that they barely have to buy stuff that they don’t need. One thing I have learned is nothing scares the rich more than the idea of being poor, so DON’T BUY NOTHING. Hit them where it hurts. Let’s be the change we want to see in our world by letting our voice be heard and the biggest way is by touching their pockets. There are injustices all around us happening but lets not be blind to them and don’t get sucked into the sink hole they want us to continue to get sucked into. We are a generation that’s not afraid to back down and I am oh so very proud of that. Lets continue to be bold, speak out and invest in our communities.
